Green Waves

Secret Garden is an Irish-Norwegian duo who play New Instrumental Music. Secret Garden features the Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and the Norwegian composer/pianist Rolf Løvland. The group began in 1995 and plays in the genres of New Age, Celtic music and Nordic folk music.  The 2002 release of the album Once in a Red Moon included the song Green Waves which is sung by Karen Matheson the lead singer of the Scottish band Capercaillie.

Sir Thomas John Woodward, (born June 7, 1940), known by his stage name Tom Jones, is a Welsh singer, particularly noted for his powerful voice.  Since 1963, Jones has sung many styles of popular music – pop, rock, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, techno, soul and gospel.  “Green, Green Grass of Home” was written by Claude “Curly” Putman Jr. and sung by Tom in 1966.

Velvet Green

Jethro Tull are a British rock group formed in 1967.  Their music is characterised by the lyrics, vocals and flute playing of Ian Anderson and the guitar work of Martin Barre.  Initially playing blues rock with an experimental flavour, they have also incorporated elements of classical music, folk music, jazz and art rock into their music.  Velvet Green is medieval-sounding folkish song is about a romp in the English countryside.

Sugarloaf was an American, rock and roll band from 1970-1975.  Jerry Corbetta founded the band with guitarist Bob Webber.  Other initial bandmembers were drummer Bob MacVittie, rhythm guitarist Veeder Van Dorn III and bassist Bob Raymond.  The band was originally known as Chocolate Hair. They changed their name to Sugarloaf after a mountain outside of Boulder, Colorado.  Sugarloaf is best known for two songs, “Green-Eyed Lady” in 1970 and “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You” in 1975.

Green Grow the Rushes

R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry. R.E.M. gained early attention as an alternative rock band, due to Buck’s ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe’s unclear vocals.  This is R.E.M.’s 1985 song Green Grow the Rushes – Lyrics interpreted HERE.  Addn’l version..

Green River

Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was an American rock band active from 1967 to 1972.  The group consisted of lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter John Fogerty, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. They sang in the country rock and swamp rock genres.  They positioned themselves as Southern rock stylists, singing about bayous, the Mississippi River, catfish, and other popular Southern styles.

Bein’ Green

The Muppet Show was a British television program produced by American puppeteer Jim Henson and featured a cast of Muppets. The show ran from 1976 to 1981. The series mimicked a vaudeville- or music hall-style song-and-dance variety show.  Kermit the Frog stared as a showrunner who tried to keep control of the antics of the other Muppet characters and keep the guest stars happy.  The show was known for outrageous physical slapstick, sometimes absurd comedy and humorous parodies.  Each episode featured a human guest star.  As the program became popular, many celebrities were eager to perform with the Muppets, and by the end of its run, hosted over one hundred guest stars.
